Christine Ashton

Christine Ashton is Group Strategy Director for Transport for London (TfL) where she is responsible for the development of the technology strategies and architectures behind London’s buses, the Underground, the Docklands Light Railway and the London River Services.
Christine started her career in the water industry before moving to IBM where she held a range of senior IT roles in electricity, gas and telecoms before taking her first global CIO role in the chemicals industry. The buzz of telecoms never left and she moved into product development and retailing working with Sky, Vodafone and BT before moving to Lattice Group to work on a portfolio of de-merger and business development propositions.
In 2001 Christine joined BP to develop strategy and applications infrastructure for the newly created BP Energy. She was then appointed VP of Gas Power and Renewables and Chief Information Manager for one of the largest divisions of BP running sizeable infrastructures, achieving regulatory compliance and developing service based approaches to deliver cost effective and scalable IT capability.
Christine holds an MSc and professional charters in chemistry, science, IT and engineering. She is a fellow of the British Computing Society, the Chartered Institute for IT, and is a member of its strategic panel. A graduate of MIT’s Sloan Projects Academy, she was a finalist in the 2006 Women in Technology Awards.
