Dolores Byrne OBE CEng
Dolores graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a BSc Hons and PhD in Physics, specializing in electro-optics. She also holds an MBA from Southampton University.
Her career spans over thirty-five years in academia, Ministry of Defence and industry, her most recent role being Managing Director Innovation at QinetiQ until her retirement in 2010. She is currently a member of the board of SEEDA and is Chair of the Science, Engineering and Technology Council of SEEDA. She is also on the Board of the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering & Manufacturing Technologies (SEMTA), and is a Trustee and Vice-President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Dolores was a board member for WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) for five years and has also been a school governor.
During her career with QinetiQ, a defence and security company, Dolores has held a number of technical and managerial positions from leading edge research through to equipment testing and trials, and supporting its operational use.
Dolores is married with three children.
